Saturday Night Live star Chris Redd shared his thoughts on his co-star Pete Davidson‘s public feud with Kanye West over his relationship with Kim Kardashian.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show on Wednesday, Redd explained why he has refrained himself from joking about the situation. He also went on to discuss his past impersonation of West, clearing up that his impersonations aren’t intended to ridicule the rapper’s mental health struggles.

“When it comes to Ye, I’m always of the mind that I’ll make fun,” Redd said. “Look, I was raised joking. You clown. You clown people. That’s kind of how we come up. We’re from the same place. We know the same people, but at the same time, there is a serious layer to that situation that I just won’t make fun of. Like, I’m not making fun of his mental health.”

Redd noted his own mental health issues, “I’m very aware of those things. And I never come from that place of making fun of that specifically. [West’s] irresponsibility of it is what I make fun of and his ego, but it’s never those things.”

The SNL went back on discussing the ongoing beef between his co-star and the rapper, saying that Davidson is “handling it well,” while West refuses to accept that the SNL star and his ex-wife have gotten serious.

“It’s just better not to put your friend in a weird situation by antagonizing a situation more than you need to,” Redd added. “But I’m really tired of sitting on these jokes, though. So I hope they figure that out soon. ‘Cause I ain’t got nothing to do with none of this.”
