Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs To Headline Rally For Democratic Governor Candidate Andrew Gillum In Florida

Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs will headline a rally for Florida’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum on Monday night, it was announced on Sunday.

The hip-hop mogul — who turned 49 on Sunday — changed his name last year to “Brother Love.” Stars who will join him at Monday’s rally include DJ Khaled, Tiffany Haddish, singer Monica and film producer Will Packer. According to a press release, the event will be held at Florida A&M University on the eve of the midterm elections.

Gillum, the mayor of Tallahasee, is facing off against Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis — a fervent ally of President Donald Trump — in one of the nation’s most hotly contested races.

“I am so proud to endorse Andrew Gillum, who will become the first black governor of Florida,” Combs said in a video voicing his support for Gillum.

Combs clarifies that he isn’t simply endorsing Gillum “because he’s black,” but rather because he’s also “the best man for the job.”

“He’s running a campaign for the people,” the rapper adds in the video. “I’ve spoken to him at length. I believe in him — his focus, his ideas, what he stands for.”

Recent polls show Gillum and DeSantis are in a near-tie.

Gillum’s roster of celebrity supporters follows that of Georgia’s Democratic candidate for governor Stacey Abrams, who could also make history in her state by becoming its first black female governor. Oprah Winfrey campaigned for Abrams in Georgia last week. 

Rapper Meek Mill also tweeted his support for Gillum on Monday, sharing a short video of the candidate’s platform regarding criminal justice reform.
