Saoirse Ronan wowed in a little black dress at the 2015 New York Film Critics Circle Awards at TAO Downtown in New York City Monday night.

Saoirse Ronan’s LBD Look

Ronan looked chic at the NY Film Critics awards ceremony in a form-fitting Victoria Beckham one-shoulder black cocktail dress. She paired the simple tea-length number with strappy black sandals and wore her blond hair in loose waves.

At the ceremony, Ronan was honored with the Best Actress Award for her starring role in John Crowley‘s Brooklyn. After she was introduced by fellow Irish actor Liam Neeson, Ronan took to the stage with a charming speech that referenced the fact that she was born in New York City.

“I’m one of you! I am from the Bronx, as I’m sure you can tell,” she said to laughs from the audience. “Saoirse from the block, as they call me.”

“Now, go back to eating your dessert,” she concluded.

Ronan went into further detail about being born in New York at a party that Fox Searchlight and Burberry hosted for Brooklyn Tuesday in Beverly Hills. Talking about the parallels between her family’s story and the one she’s immersed in as Eilis in Brooklyn, she revealed,  “I’d never been involved in something so personal as that before.”

“The story is very similar to what my Mam and Dad went through when they moved over from Ireland to New York in the ’80s. I was born over in New York, and by the time I had actually made the film, I had moved away from home,” Ronan told Variety. “I didn’t even realize it when I read it for the first time, but the more you become attached to a script like that, the more you realize that it’s essentially exactly what you’re going through as well.”

Brooklyn was released in select theaters last fall.
