Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter on Monday to share the first images of the Deadpoolcharacter Domino, played by Atlanta‘s Zazie Beetz.

The photo, which is a callback to one of the first promotional photos from the first Deadpool movie, shows Domino laying coyly atop a flattened out Deadpool suit.

Reynolds captioned the image, saying, “Some people just know how to work a red carpet.”

Deadpool, unlike most comic book franchises, is quite humorous and often weaves cultural icons into its humor. As such, the photo is a parody of a 1972 Cosmopolitan centerfold shot of a nude Burt Reynolds, laying on a bearskin rug while smoking a cigarette.

The Domino character first appeared in the early 1990s in the X-Force comics. Deadpool, was created around the same time and the characters frequently crossed paths.

Much like Deadpool, Domino has a moral ambiguity about her and is also a mercenary. In the comics she served under X-Force leader Cable, who will also be in the Deadpool 2, portrayed by Josh Brolin.

It is unclear at this time which alliances the three anti-X-Men X-Men will hold. Will Deadpool fight both? Will Domino fight alongside Deadpool? Will all three work together?

Reaction to Beetz’s Domino has been mixed online so far. In the comics, Domino has a dark patch of skin around her left eye, and chalk white skin, similar to the Joker or Harley Quinn.

For fans who feel that Beetz isn’t an accurate representation of Domino – despite being seemingly silent when Brianna Hildebrand‘s Negasonic Teenage Warhead did not quite resemble the comic book version of the character – the character’s creator Robert Liefeld has a word of advice.

“SHE LOOKS AWESOME!! Signed, Domino creator!”

Deadpool 2 is expected to be in theaters on June 1, 2018.
