Actor Ryan Reynolds took to social media to address a plea to fans where he urged them to refrain from spoilers for the highly anticipated film, Deadpool 3, currently in production.

Reynolds’ appeal came in response to a significant spoiler leak, which stemmed from a set photo that made its way online.

Reynolds, known for his wit and humor, didn’t stop at a simple request.

Instead, he decided to combat the leaks when he shared a fake set of photos on social media platforms.

These photos featured Deadpool in unlikely scenarios, such as a hangout with Mickey Mouse and a bag of money, alongside Predator, and even with the character Urkel.

Reynolds went as far as to include references to Seth Meyers‘ cue card handler Wally Feresten and the now-defunct streaming platform Quibi.

In a post to X, Reynolds humorously wrote, “Deadpool began with a leak. So I’m joining in. But PLEASE don’t overuse the phrase, ‘Deadpool Leaks’ because it might screw up search results if anyone is looking for Deadpool leaks or Deadpool spoilers or perhaps, Deadpool Scoops.”

Reynolds acknowledged the role leaks have played in the film legacy of the Deadpool character. The first Deadpool film was greenlit after test footage was leaked, which generated immense support from Marvel fans and eventually led to Reynolds taking up the mantle of the beloved character, after a disappointing portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

This recent tactic by Reynolds comes just a day after he made a plea on Instagram, where he emphasized the importance of preserving surprises and the magic of theatrical movies.

Reynolds expressed a desire to shoot Deadpool 3 in real, natural environments, and utilize practical effects instead of such a heavy reliance on indoor sets and digital effects. He also noted that telephoto lenses often spoil surprises and create challenges for the production team.

Reynolds hopes that websites and social media channels will exercise restraint in the spread of images before they are officially released.

The aim is to ensure that the film delivers maximum audience joy and to preserve the magic for the big screen. Reynolds understands that spoilers are often shared out of excitement, and while he acknowledges that these issues fall into the realm of “good problems,” he remains passionate that the movie delivers an exceptional and unexpected experience to fans.

Deadpool 3 marks the return of Reynolds’ Deadpool alongside Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who previously collaborated with Reynolds on films like Free Guy and The Adam Project. It is expected to be the first Deadpool film set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox.

Jackman recently separated from Deborra-lee Furness, his wife of 27 years.

Fans can anticipate the theatrical release of Deadpool 3 on July 26, 2024.
