Hugh Jackman, 54, and Deborra-lee Furness, 67, have separated after 27 years of marriage.

In a statement, the couple shared, “We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”

The two continued that their family is their highest priority, and they are optimistic as they each set out to navigate their next chapter alone.

Signed “Deb and Hugh Jackman,” they concluded with the note, “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”

The two met on the set of the Australian television series Corelli in 1995. At the time, Jackman was fresh out of drama school, while Furness was already established in her career as an actress. In an interview in 2017, Jackman reminisced about the first time they met. “She turned around and put out her hand and took off her sunglasses and said, ‘Hi, I’m Debra-lee Furness, nice to meet you,’” Jackman recalled. “I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl.’”

The two were married on April 11, 1996, less than a year after they met. They share two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.
