Rose McGowan was indicted on felony possession of cocaine by a grand jury in Virginia on Monday. If convicted, she could face up to ten years in prison.
In January 2017, cocaine was found in a wallet that the actress/activist left behind on a plane that arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport. She was then arrested in November 2017 and released on bond.

McGowan and her lawyer, Jose Baez, have suggested the possibility that the cocaine could have been planted by associates of Harvey Weinstein, whom she has accused (along with many other women) of sexual assault.
Baez told People, “Rose steadfastly maintains her innocence. These charges would have never been brought if it weren’t for her activism as a voice for women everywhere. I assure you, this selective prosecution will be met with a strong defense.”

McGowan was one of the first to publicly accuse Weinstein of sexual misconduct, and she has continued to be one of the most vocal alleged victims. When the warrant was issued for her arrest, she suggested that it was part of a conspiracy to silence her.
McGowan has also been in the news this week for posting an open letter in support of her friend (and fellow alleged Weinstein victim) Asia Argento, in the wake of the suicide of Argento’s boyfriend Anthony Bourdain.
