Razzie 2019 Awards For Worst In Film: ‘Holmes & Watson,’ Donald Trump & Melissa McCarthy “Win” Big

Before we celebrate the best at tonight’s Oscars, let’s take a moment to celebrate the worst that Hollywood has to offer. The Golden Raspberry Awards, known as the Razzies, announced their winners Saturday, awarding the best of the worst in film.

Sony’s Sherlock Holmes parody Holmes & Watson is the “big winner” at the 39th annual award ceremony, taking home worst picture, worst remake/rip-off/sequel, worst director for Ethan Cohen and worst supporting actor for John C. Reilly.

Melissa McCarthy is a double winner for worst actress in The Happytime Murders and Life of the Party. Though, it’s not all bad news for McCarthy— she took home the Razzie redeemer award for Can You Ever Forgive Me? and is up for a Best Actress Oscar at tonight’s Academy Awards. She’d only be the second actress to win an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year.

Strangely enough, even President Donald Trump snagged two Razzies, including worst actor and worst screen combo for Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary Death of a Nation and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 11/9. Moore’s film also won worst actress for Kellyanne Conway as herself.

Fifty Shades Freed scored one award for worst screenplay, down from last year’s double win for the franchise’s second film, Fifty Shades Darker.

RAZZIE REDEEMER AWARD

Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Since its start back in 1981, the intentionally tacky awards ceremony, which honors the worst films of the year, has grown into a globally recognized showcase of Hollywood’s biggest mistakes.

The award itself is equally as unimpressive as a nomination or win, consisting of a raspberry atop a film reel that’s been spray-painted gold.

Well-known movies such as Friday the 13th, Baywatch, Batman V. SupermanGrown Ups 2 and Transformers: Age of Extinction have been (dis)honored with the Golden Raspberry trophies in the past.
