Nick Offerman, best known for playing Ron Swanson on Parks & Recreation, discussed his new film The Kings of Summer, married life with Will and Grace star Megan Mullally and what’s next for his character on the lauded NBC sitcom in an exclusive interview with uInterview.

The Kings of Summer tells a coming-of-age story about three boys who decide to leave their families to head out into the woods and live by their own rules. Offerman plays one of the boy’s fathers. “I tried to run away a couple of times,” Offerman told uInterview of his own youth. “I made it, probably as far as a quarter-mile — was my record— before I thought I might like to have a sandwich.”

Nick Robinson, Gabe Basso and Moises Arias play the adventurous trio in The Kings of Summer – Robinson plays Offerman’s character’s son Joe. “The three young boys were incredibly competent for teenage actors; I found them quite irksome when I thought back to my own [laughs] teenage years,” Offerman complimented his costars.

Offerman’s wife Mullally also appears in The Kings of Summer, playing one of the boy’s mothers. “She and Mark Evan Jackson in this film just slay me,” Offerman told uInterview. “Their work as the overprotective cloying parents is so devastatingly funny I could watch it all day long.” Offerman also admits that his and his wife’s sense of humor is “probably the bedrock of our marriage.”

Parks and Recreation, the comedy sitcom that made Offerman a household name, is set to return for its seventh season in the fall. Although not certain as to what’s to come, Offerman offered, “I imagine there will be some more eating of something’s flesh and perhaps some fisticuffs will be in store for us this fall.”
