Jeopardy! Champ Amy Schneider, who ended her run in January after securing 40 game wins, placing among iconic champions in game rankings, and winning over $1.3 million prize money on the quiz show, got engaged to girlfriend Genevieve Davis on Thursday.
Schneider, 42, announced the news along with a photo of their rings on Twitter, writing “Genevieve is no longer my girlfriend… she is my fiancée!!!”
Schneider revealed to USA Today that a pearl necklace she was frequently seen in during her streak on the show was a gift from Davis. She sweetly said that being on the show “was the first significant time I’d spent apart from her since we’d started dating. And so having that was just a nice, just sort of comforting reminder that, that she was home waiting for me.”
The Jeopardy! champ has fun plans for the money, telling EW she planned to take Davis to Ireland and “overspend a little bit” on new clothes. The rest of the winnings will be bolstering her new “career pivot” in response to her adored run on the show. Schneider revealed on Twitter that she had left her job as a software engineer earlier this month, and is taking speaking engagements as well as tackling a book proposal according to other tweets.
Along with now ranking Fifth in All-Time Winnings and being the highest-earning female in the show’s history, Schneider was the first trans player to qualify for the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions.
