Netflix Announces ‘The Ranch’ Release Date Despite Rape Allegations Against Danny Masterson
Netflix has scheduled a release date for film The Ranch, despite the four rape allegations against its star Danny Masterson, 41. Netflix said in a statement, “We are aware of the allegations and the subsequent investigation, and will respond if developments occur.”
Masterson, known for his role of Hyde on That’s 70s Show, is being investigated by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office after four women accused him of rape in the early 2000s, the Huffington Post reported on Thursday.
One woman filed her accusation with the Los Angeles Police Department in 2004 alleging that Masterson raped her while she was “passed out.” She stated that when she came to and realized what had been happening, she claimed Masterson had choked her until she passed out again. Both she and Masterson are members of the Church of Scientology.
The three other women, also members of the Church of Scientology, reported their claims directly to the church.
The Huffington Post reported that the district attorney’s office has assembled “compelling” and “overwhelming” evidence against Masterson including; audiotapes, emails sent from Scientology members at the time of the alleged rapes, computer evidence and a handwritten letter Masterson sent to one of his alleged victims.
Masterson has not been charged with any crime.
