Danny Masterson, the former star of the TV series That 70’s Show, has been denied bail over concerns the actor would attempt to flee the country.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo said she denied Masterson bail mainly because of he is a flight risk.

“If defendant’s conviction and sentence are upheld on appeal, he will likely remain in custody for decades and perhaps the rest of his life,” Olmedo said. “In light of the fact that defendant has no wife to go home to, defendant now has every incentive to flee and little reason to return to state prison to serve out the remainder of his lengthy sentence should his appeal be unsuccessful.”

Masterson’s wife, Bijou Phillips, filed for divorce last month.

Masterson’s new lawyers, Clifford Gardner and Eric Multhaup, filed a motion requesting Masterson to be released to house arrest so he can be an at-home parent and financial provider for his family.

The actor was found guilty in 2023 of two counts of rape after he was charged with forcing himself on three women between 2001 and 2003. Masterson was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison.
