The mother of Spanish soccer president Luis Rubiales was taken to the hospital on Wednesday. Angeles Bejar was on the third day of her hunger strike in protest of FIFA’s decision to suspend her son for 90 days after he kissed player Jenni Hermoso at the World Cup final.

Bejar was admitted to Santa Ana Hospital in Motril, Spain. She was expected to hold a press conference before complaints of exhaustion and stress escalated into a medical emergency.

Bejar intended to protest her son’s suspension for “as long as [her] body holds out.”

“I don’t mind dying for justice because my son is a decent person and it’s not fair what they’re doing,” she wrote in a message on WhatsApp.

Following Spain’s first FIFA Women’s World Cup win on August 20, Rubiales grabbed Hermoso and kissed her on the lips. He was also caught on tape kissing several other players.

Following a string of social media statements from both players, FIFA issued a statement announcing Rubiales’ 90-day suspension, which prohibits him “from all football-related activities at national and international level.”

Bejar’s current medical state is unknown.
