On Monday, a New York judge ruled that Michael Avenatti will be sentenced in May for conviction charged of trying to extort $25 million from Nike.
Avenatti was convicted early last year on charges that he threatened to damage Nike’s reputation if he wasn’t paid millions of dollars. Manhattan Judge Paul G. Gardephe set the date May 7 to see if we will be convicted for the charges against him.
Avenatti was known to clash online with President Donald Trump when Avantti represented Stormy Daniels. In 2019, Avenatti was charged with defrauding Daniels.
Avenatti was granted a temporary release from federal prison last April due the coronavirus pandemic. He was given an ankle bracelet to serve 90 days of house arrest in his home in Venice, California. Terms of his release was that he was not allowed internet access, he broke that promise and went online.
The lawyer also faced two fraud trials in Los Angeles, where Avenatti faces charged of cheating clients out of millions of dollars.
