In a statement from her website, Melania Trump said an Oklahoma-based school that specializes in computer science “canceled” her by backing out of a charitable donation offer from her “Fostering The Future” initiative after initially agreeing to it.
She announced the initiative, part of her broader “Be Best” program that began while she was First Lady, in tandem with NFT Auctions she has been operating with support from Parler. Trump claimed some of the profits from these auctions and other charitable events would be bolstering the initiative, which has the mission of supporting scholarships for children to get STEM education.
In her statement, Trump called the school’s rejection a “politically-motivated decision,” and said she offered to donate the funds anonymously. She also criticized press coverage of her charity and post-presidential initiatives, calling the media “dream killers,” and added, “They have canceled the hopes and dreams of children by trying to cancel me.”
It has been speculated in the press that Trump was likely referring to Holberton School, an organization that operates several computer science training schools around the world, including one in Tulsa, which Trump named in her statement.
Chief Executive of Holberton, Julien Barber, confirmed to the New York Times that Trump tried to donate money to them, but denied that she was outright rejected, saying they “never reached an agreement on the logistics of the scholarship.”
Trump is also continuing to shill NFTs and announced last week that she was launching a new website that would sell thousands of tokens related to notable moments from Donald Trump’s presidential term. According to the Twitter announcement, users will not get to select which NFTs, but instead “the artwork of each NFT is revealed only after purchase.”
