Lady Gaga Cancels Indonesian Concert After Threats, Apologizes To Fans

Lady Gaga, 26, who kicked off her international tour early this month, canceled her scheduled June 3 "Born This Way Ball" concert in Jakarta, Indonesia after Islamic extremists in the country threatened violence against her if she chose to proceed with the show.

The Lady Gaga concert had completely sold out of its 52,000 tickets, and purchasers will now be issued refunds, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The extremists called Lady Gaga "a messenger of the devil," and revealed that some of its members had purchased tickets to the concert with the intention of stopping it. This led Jakarta authorities to recommend that Gaga's permit be declined, for safety reasons. But then Gaga put on the brakes herself, reports E! Online.

"I am so very sorry for the fans & just as devastated as you if not more," Lady Gaga tweeted to her fans. "You are everything to me …. I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown. #GagaSendsLoveToJakarta and all its people."

Musicians Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue and even Justin Bieber have all performed in Indonesia in the past without incident, despite also being issued threats.

"There is nothing Holy about hatred," Lady Gaga also tweeted.

Gaga's tour will resume on June 7 for her New Zealand show and continue into October.
