Kim Cattrall made her highly-anticipated cameo as Samantha Jones on the season 2 finale of And Just Like That…, the Max spinoff of Sex and the City.

At the beginning of the episode, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) gets a phone call from Samantha, who says, “My flight’s three hours delayed, Carrie! I won’t be able to make it there in time.”

Cattrall is shown sitting in a car, wearing a red dress and silver coat. Samantha later explains that Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) had notified her about Carrie’s “Last Supper” party at her old apartment. She had intended to fly from Heathrow Airport in London to New York to surprise Carrie.

Carrie puts her on speaker to let Samantha say goodbye to the apartment. “Thank you for everything you f—— fabulous, fabulous flat,” she said. Carrie then makes fun of Samantha’s British accent and calls back to Annabelle Bronstein, Samantha’s British alter-ego from a season 6 episode of Sex and the City.

Samantha’s absence from And Just Like That… was accounted for in the series premiere, which explained that she had moved to London after Carrie fired her as her publicist. But throughout the series, the pair began to slowly rekindle their friendship, including text conversations and an offscreen drinks meetup after the season 1 finale.

This slow lead-up increased fan anticipation for Samantha’s eventual appearance, which was hinted at in the season 2 finale trailer.

Cattrall’s cameo was brief due to her previous statements in a May 2022 Variety interview about not wanting to participate in the spinoff series because she disliked her character’s storyline. She was also disappointed in the script for the third Sex and the City film, and her decision to not be in the movie led to a public feud with Parker.

In a 2017 conversation with Piers Morgan, Cattrall said that Parker “could have been nicer” during the production of Sex and the City. She also explained that she and her castmates were “never friends.”

But she made her return as Samantha after getting a call from the “head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?'” Cattrall reportedly received $1 million for her cameo.
