The Kevin Spacey Foundation (KSF), which encouraged young men and women in the performing arts, will be shutting down in the U.K.
In the wake of the sexual harassment and assault scandal surrounding its namesake Kevin Spacey, the program has decided to cease operations, according to its Board of Trustees. “The Trustees have reached the conclusion that the work of the Kevin Spacey Foundation UK is no longer viable and as such the Foundation will be closing on the 28 February 2018,” read a blurb on the foundation’s website.
“The Trustees would like to thank all their partners, artists and organisations for the great work that has been done in association with the Foundation. The Trustees hope that the objects of the charity will be taken forward by other organisations.”
The foundation’s social media activity and website had already been scaled back in preparation for the close. At the moment, all that’s available online are the brief Trustees’ message and a contact page.
KSF was founded in 2008 in Britain during the actor’s tenure as artistic director of The Old Vic theater in London from 2004-2015. The nonprofit is registered in both the U.K. and the U.S., though the status of its operations stateside are not yet clear. At the end of 2015, the U.S. organization claimed nearly $1 million in assets.
Spacey was removed from the KSF board of directors last November after allegations of sexual assault were brought against him. Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey assaulted him when he was just 14-years-old, and Spacey was 26. In response, Spacey claimed he did not remember the incident, and simultaneously came out as gay, a move that angered a lot of people.
Also in November, Spacey was fired from Netflix series House of Cards and was replaced by Christopher Plummer in Ridley Scott‘s All the Money in the World.
The actor is currently being investigated about the allegations.
