Katy Perry dropped “Roar” on Sunday, the lead single off her upcoming album “Prism,” which is due out in October.

The single released a day earlier than scheduled – Aug. 11 instead of Aug. 12 – after it started leaking online over the weekend. "Roar," much like Perry’s past hits "Teenage Dream" and "Wide Awake," is a rousing anthem with a contagious and repeatable chorus.

“I got the eye of the tiger, the fire / Dancing through the fire, ’cause I am a champion,” sings Perry. “And you’re gonna hear me roar / Louder, louder than a lion.”

Although the song has similarities to past Perry releases, the promo clips for the single reveal a new side to the artist – one decidedly less bubblegum and more grown up and definitely edgier.

Prism is Perry’s first album since 2010’s massive success Teenage Dream and fourth overall. It’s set to be released Oct. 22.
