Kanye West Is Silent After Jimmy Kimmel Asks Him If He Thinks Trump Cares About Black People [VIDEO]

Kanye West appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday night, and the rapper was left speechless for a short while after the late-night comedian asked him about President Donald Trump.

Kimmel brought up comments West made about George W. Bush after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, in which the rapper said the former president didn’t care about African-Americans. The comedian then used that to note Trump’s selfishness.

“It makes me wonder what makes you think that Donald Trump does [care about black people], or any people at all,” said Kimmel.

West, 41, found himself unable to answer the question and simply smiled while crossing his arms.

“Why don’t we take a break, we’ll come back,” said 50-year-old Kimmel.

West and Kimmel also talked about the president with respect to other subjects. Kimmel mentioned how the rapper’s wife Kim Kardashian visited the White House earlier this year and successfully convinced Trump to grant clemency to Alice Marie Johnsona woman who had been given a life sentence in prison for a first-time drug offense.

“She’ super passionate about it, and it was amazing for her to see that dream come true,” West said of his wife’s actions.

Kimmel then asked West if he was at any point concerned of leaving Kardashian alone with Trump in the Oval Office because of the president’s reputation as a sexual assaulter of women.

“Well, he is a player,” the rapper replied smiling.

West also gave a strange answer to Kimmel’s question about whether he believes Trump is a good president.

“It’s funny, in this world that we live in, there’s two main motivating forces, and I tweet about it all the time: it’s love or fear, and you can’t explain love,” Kanye said. “My cousin is locked up for murder, and I love him and so he did a bad thing, but I still love him.”

West went on to explain how he disliked the implication that his race or stature as a famous entertainer should determine his political affiliations.

“Just as a musician, African-American guy out in Hollywood – all these different things, everyone around me tried to pick my candidate for me and then told me every time I said I liked Trump that I couldn’t say it out loud or my career would be over, I’d get kicked out (of) the black community, because blacks, we’re supposed to have a monolithic thought – we can only be Democrats,” said West.

Later in the interview, West said about many Americans’ frequent criticism of Trump: “When I see people just even like go at the president, it’s like, why not try love?”

Among the other topics West and Kimmel discussed were the rapper’s children, his foray in fashion designing, and West’s controversial comments about slavery he made at TMZ’s newsroom in May. The pair also talked about West’s new album Ye, which was released on June 1.

West is known for having suffered from mental illness, and was even hospitalized in 2016, which forced him to take a hiatus from his Life of Pablo tour.
