Kai Greene‘s alleged ban from competing in Mr. Olympia 2015 may have caused a rift in the bodybuilding world.

KAI GREEN’S ‘BAN’ FROM ‘MR. OLYMPIA’ BREWS TROUBLE

Kai Greene, one of Mr. Olympia‘s most popular, top contenders, released a YouTube video where he explains to his fans that he was banned from competing in Mr. Olympia 2015 for reasons he could not divulge. “You don’t get this far, you don’t get to this point, and just stop,” he said, starting to tear up. “It doesn’t happen like that. I am not a victim, I’m not a… they ain’t gonna break me. And I don’t wanna speak negatively to anybody. I don’t wanna speak negatively about anything else. Let me just say that there’s more going on than, than I’m able to say.”

There was some speculation as to whether or not Greene’s alleged ban had something to do with him asking for a free promotional booth at the Mr. Olympia exposition, and that there was some dispute regarding payment, but now it seems there may be something else behind all of this drama.

Mr. Olympia promoter Robin Chang released a statement explaining that Greene was not banned, but had, in fact, failed to sign his regular, annual contract with the establishment.

“Kai has had his Olympia contract since April but refused to sign it for reasons known only to Kai,” Chang told Flex. “This is the same contract Kai signed for the past 6 years. Nothing has changed but the dates. If he was banned from competing, why would we send him the contract? I’ve even heard he said he was banned from the expo! Are you kidding me?”

“The decision has always been Kai’s,” Chang went on. “If he really wanted to compete, all he had to do was sign the contract and send it back to us, like he has done the past 6 years. The last time I spoke to Kai was with his manager about a month ago when they inquired about a booth at the Olympia. No indication that he wasn’t going to compete. I haven’t spoken to them since.”

It’s clear that there are some unresolved issues surrounding Mr. Olympia, and they may even have some competition coming their way since Mr. Olympia judge Lee Thompson announced he would be starting his own bodybuilding institution, Nspire Physique Champions Global, which has already begun to gain recognition in the bodybuilding world.

Phil Heath went on to win Mr. Olympia last month in Greene’s absence.
