John Travolta Pens Tribute To Former Co-Star Olivia Newton-John After Her Death
Like many of her fans, family and collaborators, John Travolta was affected by the recent news that Olivia Newton-John had passed away at 73. He expressed those feelings to his Instagram followers in an emotional post yesterday.
“You made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible,” Travolta began his message, which accompanied an old photo of the Grease and Xanadu star. “We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever. Your Danny, your John!”
Travolta and Newton-John displayed great chemistry as Danny and Sandy in the hit 1978 musical Grease, and both were multi-talented actors, singers and dancers. Their duet from the film’s soundtrack album, “You’re The One That I Want,” even became one of the best-selling singles in history.
They clearly maintained a healthy off-camera friendship long after their early-career meeting and came together many years later in 2012 to release a sweet charity Christmas album called This Christmas.
Even though they never collaborated in a film or series after that, they did reprise the iconic characters once in 2019 for an in-costume singalong and Q&A screening of the film in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Sure this far in the future, these actors looked even less appropriate as high schoolers than some of them do in the movie, but it must have still been a very joyful and nostalgic occasion for the actors and audience alike.
Newton-John is survived by her husband John Easterling, daughter Chloe Lattanzi, sister Sara Newton-John, brother Toby Newton-John and her nieces and nephews. Easterling confirmed the news of her death and requested privacy for his family.
“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.”
