Jill Duggar And Derick Dillard's First Meeting Shown On '19 Kids & Counting'

Jill Duggar and her now fiancé Derick Dillard’s first meeting was documented on film and was shown on this week’s episode of 19 Kids & Counting.

Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard Meet

When Jim Bob Duggar introduced Jill to Dillard, the latter was on a missionary trip in Nepal. After three months of getting to know one another through video chatting, Jim Bob brought his daughter – and a camera crew – to meet Dillard, who Jill believed could be her future husband.

Upon catching sight of one another at the airport, both Jill and Dillard jogged over to one another. Dillard brought Jill in for a side hug and presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Jim Bob admitted to the camera that he was slightly scared that Jill could end up disappointed and hurt, even though he did vet Dillard before introducing them.

"We talked a lot and started texting and emailing," Jill, 22, said. "And we Skyped a lot. I got to know some of his friends and family. And then, we met in person months later. I was in love with someone I had never met in person."

"I traveled over 36 hours to meet him and we had a film crew filming and jet lag so it is a different dynamic than most people have," she added. "But it was really special. We enjoyed the first several days getting to spend time together and getting to see things together."

Later on in the trip, while Jill and Dillard were getting to know one another, Dillard brought her and her father out for some authentic Nepalese cuisine. He was admittedly impressed at how adventurous Jill was when it came to the local food. Though the trip was a short one, Jill wondered if the end result would be for them to court.

Duggar & Dillard Engaged

Last month it was revealed that Dillard had proposed to Jill and that the two are now engaged to be married. "When my dad first introduced Derick and I [remotely], we spent hours texting, calling, and talking on Skype while 8,000 miles away from each other,” Duggar told ABC News at the time. “And when we finally met in person in Nepal, we knew within days that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.”
