Jennifer Aniston & Reese Witherspoon to Star in TV Series About Morning TV Shows

The internet is abuzz with the news that Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon will be staring in a new series about morning shows and the larger New York media scene.

The series is currently untitled but will be led by former HBO head of drama Michael Ellenberg and his recently launched film and TV production company Media Res.

Aniston, 48, and Witherspoon, 41, will reportedly be credited as executive producers for the series, though it is unclear at this time how much of a role they will play behind the scenes.  Also joining the production staff is Jay Carson of House of Cards who will write the script and also executively produce the series alongside Harry Potter screenwriter, Steve Kloves.

The project is still at the very early stages of development and hasn’t begun filming yet. Although the series hasn’t yet been bought by a network, it is being offered to premium networks and streaming services like HBO and Netflix.

This is the first time the pair will be seen on the small screen together since their time on Friends, where Witherspoon played Aniston’s self-centered younger sister.

With Friends having ended more than a decade ago, this will be Aniston’s first real TV comeback. The actress has been focusing on films rather than TV and starred in movies like We’re the Millers and Horrible Bosses.

In a statement back in January, Aniston explained her openness to returning to TV.

“I’ve thought about it a lot. That’s where the work is. That’s where the quality is,” she said. “At this point in my career, I want to be part of wonderful stories, exciting characters and also just having a good time.”

Witherspoon has recently made a return to TV with HBO’s Big Little Lies, which garnered the actress an Emmy nomination. The adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel gained critical acclaim and is in talks for a second season.
