Carol Burnett Will Return To Comedy On Netflix With Series ‘A Little Help’

Celebrated comedian Carol Burnett will return to the small screen with a new unscripted series on Netflix titled, A Little Help with Carol Burnett.

The series, which will be filmed live in front of a studio audience, will rely on a panel of children to help guests and celebrities solve their problems, according to the Associated Press. The wise children will range from ages 4 to 8 and Burnett will host and moderate the discussions. Netflix has ordered 12 episodes of A Little Help with Carol Burnett.

The announcement for the show came in the form of a trailer, in which Burnett gets interviewed by a young boy.

Burnett first gives her initial pitch, saying that she has worked with the best in the business and “would like to continue doing that right here at Netflix, sir.”

The camera cuts to the young boy slouched in a large office chair, who is skeptical of the 84-year-old’s relevancy.

Nonetheless, the kid gives her a shot, with a few conditions: one, Burnett can only use her phone for texting, not calling, two, she needs to slouch when she is sitting, and three, she needs to get an Instagram.

The meeting ends with the kid giving Burnett a fist bump, adding the parting words, “Stay woke.”

“I will,” Burnett says with a worried look on her face.

“Someone once asked me how old I am inside,” Burnett said in a statement to Deadline. “I thought about it, and came up with, ‘I’m about eight.’ So it’s going to be a lot of fun playing with kids my age.”

Netflix has recently increased their selection of original comedy. In 2016 Chelsea Handler began streaming her talk show Chelsea on Netflix three nights a week. The streaming giant also signed Ellen DeGeneres to film her first stand-up special since 2003.

Additionally, specials from Dave Chapelle and Tracy Morgan started streaming earlier this year.

“We’re thrilled Carol is bringing her unique sensibilities to Netflix,” Bela Bajaria, the Vice President of Content Acquisition for Netflix told Deadline. “Carol is truly a legend in the entertainment industry with unprecedented success and fandom across TV, film and the stage, and we are both honored and excited to work with her.”

The 22-time-Emmy nominee’s new show is expected to premiere at some point in 2018.
