Jamie Spears, father of Britney Spears, has requested to step down as Britney’s conservator citing “personal health reasons” and following a police report claiming abuse on the singers 13-year-old son, Sean Preston Federline.

The news comes admid months of health-related turmoil for both the singer and her father. Britney was hospitalized for mental health-related reasons in late March when her father faced his own health scare of his own.

Sean and his younger brother, Jayden James, were visiting their grandfather at his condo in California when Sean allegedly got into an argument with Jamie Spears. He reportedly “felt unsafe” and locked himself in a room, but Spears managed to break in and allegedly “shook” the boy, a law enforcement source said.

According to reports, Britney was the one who informed ex-husband Kevin Federline about the incident between her father and Sean, prompting Federline to file a police report.

Since last year, Britney has maintained 30% custody of her children, and is “is extremely anxious and paranoid about losing custody and she feels Jamie put her in jeopardy.”

Jamie has served at the stars primary conservator since 2007, when she had her public mental breakdown and is now asking the courts to relinquish his conservator’s duties temporarily to Jodi Montgomery, who is Britney’s care manager. These duties include the power to restrict or limit visitors, retain caretakers and security for Britney, the power to prosecute civil harassment restraining orders and the power to communicate with medical personnel regarding any treatment of the singer.
