Human remains have been discovered nearby some items believed to be Brian Laundrie‘s personal belongings. The belongings were discovered in Florida’s Carlton Reserve in an area that was previously underwater.

The discovery comes after Laundrie’s parents helped to join the search for their missing son.

Laundrie’s parents directed FBI agents and local police to the location where “some articles belonging to Brian were found,” according to a statement by Laundrie attorney Steven Bertolino.

“Chris and Roberta Laundrie went to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park this morning to search for Brian,” Bertolino said. “The FBI and NPPD were informed last night of Brian’s parents’ intentions and they met Chris and Roberta there this morning. After a brief search off a trail that Brian frequented some articles belonging to Brian were found. As of now law enforcement is conducting a more thorough investigation of that area.”

The reserve, which recently opened to the public after being closed for a month due to the investigation, has been closed again and has a heavy police presence.

The body has yet to be identified.

Laundrie and his ex-fiancé Gabby Petito were on a cross-country road trip together when Laundrie returned home alone. Petito’s body was discovered shortly after.

Shortly after Laundrie was named a person of interest in the case and disappeared. He refused to cooperate with law enforcement before disappearing.
