71st Emmy Awards, which took place on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, decided not to have a traditional host and instead started off the event by an animated Homer Simpson walking on stage. Simpson announced that he would be hosting the 2019 Emmys, a few seconds before the piano dropped on him.

“What the hell was that?” The Black-ish star Anthony Anderson shouted from the audience. Anderson continued as he continued running around and pretended to ‘steal’ Emmy statues. Anderson demanded to the crew, “What we need is an Emmy winner. Someone who can talk about the power of television.” He then grabbed Bryan Cranston who gave an opening speech. “Television has never been bigger. Television has never mattered more. And television has never been this damn good,” he said.

Even though several awkward moments occurred during the award show, there were many memorable speeches as well, which made the night special for the audience. The cast and creators of the Game of Thrones and Veep, two popular TV series, received stand-alone tributes and standing ovations, celebrating their final seasons.
