Golden Globes Sold To Dick Clark Productions, Hollywood Foreign Press Association Shuts Down

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) sold their rights to the Golden Globes to Dick Clark Productions (DCP) and Eldridge.

The properties, assets and rights were all included in the sale.

This sale brings an end to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is a nonprofit organization that donates money raised by the Golden Globes to entertainment-related charities. The funds that are left will create a new non-profit charity called the Golden Globe Foundation. Their goal is to, “continue the legacy HPFA’s history of entertainment-related charitable giving.”

A press release was created that discussed the details of this sale.

The President of HFPA, Helen Hoehne, stated: “We are excited to close on this much anticipated member-approved transaction and transition from a member-led organization to a commercial enterprise.”

The Chairmen of Eldrige, Todd Boehly, added, “Today marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the Golden Globes. My partners at DCP and I are grateful to Helen and team for their commitment to the successful implementation of a robust approach to governance, the expansion of the diverse and international voting body, implementing a professional, safe, and accountable environment, and trusting new ownership with a new direction for the Globes.”

IN MEMORIAM 2022: 100 GREAT CELEBRITIES WHO DIED IN 2022

Jay Penske, who is the CEO of Penske Media and the CEO of DCP, said, “As stewards of the Golden Globe Awards, our mission is to continue creating the most dynamic awards ceremony on live television viewed across the world. We have a great team in place to grow this iconic brand and captivate new and existing audiences to celebrate the very best in television and motion pictures.”

HFPA has faced some backlash in the past due to its lack of diversity. It was found that of the 310 voting members, there was not a single black person a part of this committee. This caused outrage and NBC refused to air the awards back in 2022.

HFPA tried to remedy this, but it was impossible for people to view them the same as before. There are still artists who still are boycotting the ceremony.

The next Golden Globe Awards will be their 81st and is scheduled to occur on January 7, 2024.
