Pat Sajak, Host Of ‘Wheel Of Fortune,’ Announces Retirement – Will Vanna White Replace Him?

Pat Sajak announced on Monday on Twitter that he is planning on retiring as host of Wheel of Fortune at the end of next season. While he will no longer be the host, he does plan on staying on the show as a consultant for the next three years.

In his tweet, he stated: “Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”

In his tweet, Sajak is referring to the fact he is known for trolling people on Twitter. It seems he has taken this up as a hobby as he enjoys commenting on controversial tweets in order to rile people up. He deleted most of them from his account after an online petition started to get him fired from Wheel of Fortune.

Fans in the comments sent him their best wishes and thanked him for all his work on the show.

Sajak has co-hosted the show with Vanna White since 1982. White posted her own statement, replying to Sajak’s announcement. She stated: “When we started @WheelofFortune who could have imagined we’d still be at it 41 seasons later? I couldn’t be happier to have shared the stage with you for all these years with one more to come. Cheers to you, @patsajak!”

Many people are wondering if White will follow in Sajak’s footsteps and also retire or if she plans on staying and stepping into the hosting role.

Neither Sony Pictures nor White has answered yet.

The vice president of Sony Pictures Television’s game shows, Suzanne Prete, stated, “We are incredibly grateful and proud to have had Pat as our host for all these years and we look forward to celebrating his outstanding career throughout the upcoming season.”

Alex Trebek and Sajak started an era of American game shows, but with Trebek’s death in 2020 and Sajak’s retirement, it seems that the era is coming to an end.

Sajak has hosted the game since he took over for Chuck Woolery. He was the host of the NBC version of the game from 1981 to 1989. The version he currently hosts is the syndicated one, which was created in 1983.

In 2019, he and White celebrated their 7,000th show together. After this, White reportedly said that she wasn’t going to do, “the show for more than five years,” which is also why fans are curious to learn if she has already made retirement plans.

Sajak has won multiple awards throughout his career. This includes one Guinness World Record for being the longest host for the same show, three Emmy Awards, a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, one People’s Choice Award and one Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 41st season will air this September.
