Metroid is a sacred name amongst Nintendo fans, and if you’re in that group, then the next New Nintendo 3DS XL iteration might appeal to you.

NEW NINTENDO 3DS XL: SAMUS EDITON COMING NEXT MONTH

In addition to the forthcoming Mario-themed Nintendo 2DS, Nintendo unveiled a New Nintendo 3DS XL modeled after their premier bounty hunter, Samus Aran. It was announced this past Tuesday, with Nintendo highlighting its sleek orange-and-yellow exterior. The coloring seems reminiscent of a certain Varia Suit, hmm?

The Samus Edition of the New Nintendo 3DS XL will launch on September 15, neatly coinciding with the launch of the game and its two amiibo. The handheld will cost $199.99. However, it should be clarified that the system will not come with a copy of the game it’s modeled after. $39.99 will be the standard price for Metroid: Samus Returns, although a Special Edition will also be discoverable for $49.99.

On a related note, Nintendo hosted a preview for Samus Returns for select members of the press, including my fellow Source Gaming member NantenJex. You can find his thoughts concerning the remake over yonder.

Metroid: Samus Returns was a pleasant surprise at this year’s E3. It, alongside Metroid Prime 4 for the Switch, fully brought back the acclaimed series from the hibernation it’s been in since 2010’s Metroid: Other M. Moreover, Samus Returns is the first 2D installment in the series since 2004’s Zero Mission. And just as how Zero Mission reimagined the original Metroid game, Samus Returns is likewise modernizing the second entry, Metroid II: Return of Samus. MercurySteam is developing the side-scroller with Metroid figurehead Yoshio Sakamoto overseeing the project.
