Gavin Long is allegedly the gunman who shot and killed three police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana? on Sunday.

Who Is Gavin Long?

Long allegedly opened fire on police Sunday morning, killing two Baton rouge Police Department officers, a deputy with East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office and wounding three others. It is believed that Long rented a car in his hometown of Kansas City, Mo. Then, after making a stop in Texas, he drove to Baton Rouge for his attack on what happened to be his 29th birthday.

During his alleged attack on police officers yesterday, Long armed himself with an assault rifle.

Long, who was killed at the scene Sunday, was a marine veteran. He had served as a data network specialist and held the rank of sergeant. In 2008, he served a tour in Iraq, according to USA Today.

Sometime after returning to Iraq, Long appears to have enrolled at the University of Alabama, where he made the Dean’s List in 2012, according to The Kansas City Star. In more recent years, Long has attempted to launch a career as a life coach, using the pseudonym “Cosmo Setepenra.” He has uploaded numerous writings pictures and videos, many of which discuss law enforcement and the black community.
