Donald Trump‘s national security adviser, John Bolton, said that the former president wants Americans to treat him like North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Bolton shared in the X post a 2018 video of Trump talking to the Fox News host Steve Doocy days after his Singapore summit meeting with Kim.

“Are we close to seeing Mr. Kim here at the White House,” Doocy asked in the recording.

“It could happen,” Trump replied.

Trump then went on to compliment the North Korean supreme leader.

“He’s the head of a country,” Trump stated in the clip. “And I mean, he is the strong head. Don’t let anyone think anything different.

“He speaks, and his people sit up at attention,” he claimed. “I want my people to do the same.”

“Donald Trump wants Americans to treat him like North Koreans treat Kim [Jong] Un,” the former United States U.N. ambassador wrote in the post’s caption.

“Get ready,” he continued.

In addition to this X post, Bolton has made many media appearances in recent weeks, during which he warned that another Trump presidency is a significant national security risk.

In October 2023, he said he feared Trump might do irreversible damage if he gets elected again.

“This is a very dangerous period we’re about to enter into here,” Bolton stated.

The former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, in her memoir, Speaking for Myselfbrought up an occasion in which Trump jokingly asked her to travel to North Korea and “take one for the team” after the former president realized that Kim was flirting with her during a meeting.

According to excerpts from the memoir, Sanders noticed that the North Korean dictator stared and then winked at her during the 2018 Singapore Summit.

When she later told Trump during a limousine ride, he exclaimed that Kim “f—ing hit on” her and then stated that she was “going to North Korea.” He said that even though the former White House secretary’s husband and children will miss her, she would “be a hero to” America.

The statements amused Trump and his then-Chief of Staff, John Kelly, to the point of distinct laughter. Sanders claimed that she, at one point, told the former president to “stop.”

In February, Bolton claimed that Russia is going to “celebrate” if Trump gets re-elected.

Putin made comments during an interview with the Russian media. He said that President Joe Biden is “more experienced” and “more predictable.” He also said that even though the U.S. president is “a politician of the old formation,” Russia will “work with any U.S. leader whom the American people trust.”

During a speech at his South Carolina rally, Trump replied to the Russian president’s words, stating that it was a “compliment.”

Bolton told MSNBC that Putin’s comment had been a ploy to provoke Trump into making his comments. The adviser claimed that what the Russian president said was “clear disinformation” and he “thinks [Trump] is an easy mark.”
