Authorities investigating the attempted assassination of the former president have uncovered explosive devices in the vehicle of the gunman 20-year-old, Thomas Matthew Crooks.

The car, belonging to the gunman was found near the site of the Saturday campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the shooting took place. Crooks was fatally shot by a Secret Service sniper after he opened fire on the former president from a nearby rooftop.

Police officers are still investigating what happened and have sent bomb experts to the area after finding several suspicious packages near where Crooks was located.

The presence of explosives has heightened concerns about the potential scale and intent of the attack. Federal authorities are treating the incident as an assassination attempt, with investigations now focused on determining Crooks’ motive and whether he acted alone.

In addition to the explosives, an AR-style rifle was recovered at the scene. Investigators have traced the firearm to Crooks’ father, who reportedly purchased the weapon. This development has raised questions about how the suspect obtained access to the gun and whether proper safeguards were in place.

The former president, who suffered a gunshot wound to his right ear during the incident, received treatment at a local hospital before being released. He later described the attack on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that he “heard a whizzing sound” and “immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

Despite the attack, Trump is expected to speak at the upcoming Republican National Convention as scheduled.

As the investigation continues, authorities are piecing together the events leading up to the attack and examining Crooks’ background for any indicators of his motives or potential connections to extremist groups.

The shooting has reignited debates about political violence and the safety of public figures during campaign season.
