Donald Trump Won’t Be The Focus Of The Second Season Of ‘Roseanne’
Donald Trump won’t be the focal point of Roseanne‘s next season.
While on Watch What Happens Live, Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene on the show, said it was unintentional that the Connors were associated with Trump. “The Connors aren’t Trump supporters,” she said. “Roseanne’s character is the only Trump supporter – and we never say his name, actually, in the show.”
The Roseanne revival garnered record-breaking numbers — 21.9 million people viewed the premiere — including Trump. Roseanne Barr received a personal phone call from the president congratulating her on her numbers. The revival was so successful on its first night, it was renewed for another season.
Even if Trump’s support for Barr and her character added to the success of the show, Gilbert assured that the focus would be on the family drama next season.
“It’s not about anyone’s political position or a policy, it’s really about what happens to a family when there’s a political divide, which is something that I think the entire country can relate to and something we need to talk about,” she said. “With our show, it’s never about ‘doing an issue’ or ‘doing politics.’ It’s, ‘How do these things affect a family unit?'”
