Daniel Radcliffe broke the hearts of Harry Potter fans everywhere when he announced that probably wouldn’t be making an appearance in the upcoming spinoff Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

Radcliffe shot to stardom in 2001 when he made his debut as the bespectacled boy wizard in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and he played Harry Potter for ten years, ending his tenure when the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was released in 2011.

Author of the Harry Potter series J.K. Rowling recently announced she would be writing the screenplay for a spinoff of the popular franchise based on a textbook mentioned in the books, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Rowling has stated that the book is about a completely different character in the Wizarding World, Newt Scamander. Furthermore, the film will follow an entirely new protagonist in a time before the character of Harry Potter was even born.

“Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway,” Rowling wrote in her announcement of the spin-off.

When asked about his potential involvement in the film, Radcliffe said that, though he might be open to the idea of appearing in the film, he doubts it will happen.

“I don’t think I’m going to be coming back… We can’t be doing these characters when we’re 40, so, there has to be a line drawn,” Radcliffe told The Hollywood Reporter.

Radcliffe admitted that he had no idea what exactly Rowling is writing, and is “in the same position that everyone else is in – waiting to hear what information is coming out because I don’t know anything about these new films.”

Radcliffe is continuing his post-Harry Potter career with a new film Kill Your Darlings set for release Oct. 16.
