Rapper Tory Lanez Denied Bail In Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case

Tory Lanez’s bail motion was denied by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.

Lanez is currently facing a ten-year prison sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, asked the judge to be released on bail so he could live with his family, particularly his wife and child, while working on his appeal.

Judge David Herriford has since denied that motion. Herriford cited Lanez’s conviction for a violent felony, history of violating court orders, and foreign citizenship as reasons to reject the appeal.

In a statement, Lanez’s attorney, Matthew Barhoma, commented, “The outcome on this motion (and case) is a miscarriage of justice. Simply put, Daystar Peterson is a trademark applicant for bond on appeal. He is not a flight risk, poses essentially no danger to society, and has strong merit-based arguments on appeal.”

Lanez was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, in the foot during an alcohol-influenced argument that turned violent between the two rappers. He was convicted in December of assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a gun. Lanez faced a maximum of 22 years and eight months behind bars.

Lanez was sentenced in early August, where he asked the judge to not treat him too harshly for an “out-of-character” moment for him, citing his religious upbringing and charitable works.

Lanez is currently being held in L.A.’s Men’s Central Jail. There has yet to be a definitive date for when he will be transported to a state prison.
