Chris Redd, a stand-up comedian and actor best known as a former cast member for Saturday Night Live, was punched in the face on Wednesday night outside of the renowned comedy venue The Comedy Cellar in lower Manhattan.

The comic had just driven to the venue and was entering the Cellar around 10 p.m. to perform when he was attacked by an unknown assailant who was apparently dressed like a security guard with a blue jacket and black pants.

A later TMZ report claimed that there was another suspect who cased the area from the other side of the road and that the assailant used brass knuckles on Redd. That could explain the splatters of blood on the ground scene in witness videos, which also showed people caring for Redd who was later transferred to Bellvue Hospital for treatment.

No arrests have been made, and Redd will consult with police to review some surveillance footage that may have caught the attackers on their escape.

After leaving SNL, Redd has been active on the stand-up touring circuit and has a special Why Am I Like This? coming to HBO Max. He also co-created and starred in the Peacock sitcom Bust Down.
