Celebrities Earth Day Mark Earth Day 2019: What Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris & George Takei Have To Say
Originally established in 1970, Earth Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide that rallies people to the protection of our environment, which is constantly being threatened by pollution and global warming.
Yet, five decades since the first Earth Day, green house emissions have shot up to 414 parts per million, a shocking change in carbon dioxide levels that hasn’t been this high in millions of years. If we don’t act soon and cut carbon emissions in half by 2030, there could be permanent damage to the environment.
Many celebrities have heard the call and are using their platform in the fight to protect the planet. Here’s just a brief sampling of what they’re saying.
This #EarthDay, I'm thankful for the millions of young people around the world who have marched and gone on strike to demand action on climate change.
We know what we need to do: Cut greenhouse emissions in half by 2030. Now we need to do it.

My thought is, we need to make it not just #EarthDay but “Earth Century.” By this I mean, by the end of this century, the good of our planet and its other inhabitants must have taken complete precedence over our own species’ selfish needs and desires. This is my hope for us all.

Climate change is real, it's here now, and it poses a grave threat to our nation and our planet. This #EarthDay I'm thinking about what we need to do to protect our environment, create jobs for a clean economy & build a sustainable and equitable future. What about you? pic.twitter.com/0De0CbaWTS

This #EarthDay my friend @ErnestMoniz and I write in @USATODAY about connecting the grassroots and the grass-tops to build an unlikely coalition on climate change. Why? We need to work together, because as young people remind us: “there is no Planet B.” https://t.co/6H9pVU3eAZ
