Kasem’s children claim to not know where his body is, according to daughter Kerri Kasem’s publicist Danny Deraney. “We are not surprised,” Kerri Kasem told CNN, seeming to imply that they believe their father’s surivivng wife Jean Kasem may have something to do with the body’s disappearance. "We expected something like this to happen."
When approached for comment on the matter, Jean Kasem refuted claims that her late husband’s body was missing. "It's not," she told CNN. "Would you leave us to grieve in peace?"
In the months leading up to Kasem’s death, Kerri Kasem and her siblings from Casey Kasem’s first marriage fought for her conservatorship to be upheld in court. Eventually, a Washington state judge granted Kerri Kasem permission to take Casey Kasem from Jean Kasem’s care and to bring him to a doctor. Jean Kasem had previously removed the famed radio DJ from a facility to a Washington residence, where Kasem’s children felt he was not receiving adequate medical care.
Casey Kasem was listed in critical but stable condition upon his admittance at St. Anthony Hospital in early June. Kasem died not long after on Sunday, June 15. “Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends,” Kerri Kasem tweeted. “Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad. With love, Kerri, Mike and Julie.”
Kasem was a globally successful radio DJ, who was best known for his countdown shows American Top 40 and Casey’s Top 40. For four decades, Kasem was one of the best-known voices on the airwaves before he retired in 2009.
