Caitlyn Jenner Blasts Donald Trump Over Potential New Policy Ending Recognition Of Transgender People

President Donald Trump angered many people again this week after his administration announced over the weekend that it may seek to roll back the rights of transgender individuals.

One famous transgender person who is nothing short of outraged by the new proposed policy is reality television star Caitlyn Jenner. The proposed policy would define gender as based on the genitalia a person has at birth, and would thus potentially erase the legal recognition of transgender Americans. Many protests have been held across the country since the announcement.

Thus, 68-year-old Jenner — who is a Republican and who came out as a woman in 2015 — told People how angry she is at the possibility of the new policy.

“The Trump administration has ferociously attacked my community again. Just as an FYI Mr. President— the military is the single largest employer of trans people in the world. This leaked memo is an unacceptable attack on my community,” said the former Olympian. “We will not be erased!”

The New York Times was one of the first to report the proposed policy. The newspaper obtained a memo that said the Department of Health and Human Services hopes to redefine gender by using Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on a person’s sex in government-funded education programs.

Jenner underwent gender confirmation surgery in January 2017, and she voted for Trump in 2016, hoping he would fight to protect LGBT rights.

The Trump administration previously announced last year that it would seek to ban transgender people from serving in the military, although this effort ultimately failed. This comes after controversial bills like HB2 in North Carolina, which in 2016 sought to force transgender people to use bathrooms that correspond with the gender listed on their birth certificate.

According to NPR, a June 2016 study revealed that 1.4 million adults in the United States identify as transgender. A record number of LGBT candidates are running for office in this year’s midterm elections.
