Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, spoke publicly through a video on Instagram about the personal struggles she has been facing amid Bruce’s battle with dementia.

After a hike, Emma sat in the car to speak about her mental status and how she believes, “It’s so important for us to break up our thinking which can feel, for me very much, like gloom and doom.”

This video was inspired by the pictures she asked care partners like herself to share with her to encourage them to not forget to focus on the good in their lives.

Emma recently begged paparazzi to stop photographing Willis since the flashes disorient him.

She clarified that despite how she may appear on social media, her husband’s disease affects her every day. “I know it looks like I’m out, living my best life. I have to make a conscious effort every single day to live the best life I can.”

She explained that her motivation is her two young daughters that she shares with Bruce, Mabel and Evelyn, as they are also trying to deal with their father’s diagnosis. “I do that for myself—I do that for our two children and Bruce, who would not want me to live any other way. So I don’t want it to be misconstrued that I am good because I am not. I am not good.”

She emotionally asserted that despite the hardships, “I have to put my best foot forward for myself and the sake of my family. Again, when we are not looking after ourselves we cannot look after anyone that we love. So, it is really important and, like I said, this is a conscious effort, It does not come to me easily. But I am just doing the best that I can always.”

She ended her statement by thanking everyone for the pictures they have sent and reminding them to not forget to focus on themselves with caring for their loved ones.

“Your pictures are making me happy,” she said. “I just want you to take a moment out of your day, and I know that your day is stressful and I know that your day is hard, but I just want you to break it up for a minute, just for a second. And just look for something beautiful.”

She posted the video on Monday alongside the caption, “This is a care partner PSA 🔊 My message is simple. When we are not looking after ourselves, we are no good to the people we love who we want to show up for and take care of.”

She added, “I don’t have this down to a fine-science either, but I try. It’s an affirmation I use daily so it’s kept in the forefront of my mind. Your pictures, words of support and love for me and my family were felt. Honestly, thank you, it helps 🙏🏽I ask that you’ll consider to keep looking for that one beautiful thing or moment in your day 💞.”

She ended her heartfelt sentiment by joking, “And I hope you can take me seriously in my dopey hat 😁.”
