Emma Heming Willis took to social media to request paparazzi keep their distance from her husband, Bruce Willis, who suffers from frontotemporal dementia.

Willis’ family first announced his retirement from acting in March 2022, after he was diagnosed with aphasia. Following a recent joint statement about the progression of his condition, Heming shared a video on Instagram on Saturday, in an attempt to raise “awareness around dementia,” and to emphasize the difficulties around caring for someone suffering from it.

“If you are someone that is looking after someone with dementia, you know how difficult and stressful it can be to get someone out into the world and to navigate them safely, even just to get a cup of coffee,” Heming explained to her 600,000 Instagram followers.

Referring to recent headlines and a video of her husband “getting some coffee with some friends that did a stand-up job with protecting him,” Heming felt obligated to educate “the photographers and the video people that are trying to get those exclusives of my husband out and about.”

While she understands that they are doing their job, she pleads with them to “just keep your space,” and “please don’t be yelling at my husband and asking him how he’s doing or whatever.”

“Give him his space, allow for our family — or whoever’s with him that day — to be able to get him from point A to point B safely. That’s my PSA,” she said concluding the video.
