Britney Spears filed papers in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles on August 17 in hopes of removing her father, Jamie Spears, as her conservator.

Her father has been listed as the conservator for 12 years, and she has declared how she does not want her father to be a part of the management team any longer. Spears has listed Jodi Montgomery, her temporary conservator, as her preference to take over the role from her father.

Recently, Spears has spoken about how she would not like her father to have control over her estate and regain control herself. In the file it is stated, “Britney strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role.”

Since 2008, when Spears suffered a public breakdown, her father took the role of co-conservator and then primary conservator in 2019. As conservator, Spears’ father receives roughly $130,000 each year. Although Spears’ lawyers believe her father will fight this, they state, “We are now at a point where the conservatorship must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes.”
