Billy Bush
Billy Bush is officially out of the Today show lineup following Trump Tape controversy.
NBC took a week to make their final decision after having suspended Bush. They were first deciding if a punishment should be in effect at all, and finally deciding to cut Bush from the program.
Bush was heard on a hot mic having a conversation with republican presidential candidate Donald Trump about how fame allows men to “grab [women] by the p—y.” While Trump played the most toxic part in the tapes, Bush’s contributions and agreement left him with blame as well.
“Billy Bush will be leaving the TODAY show’s 9am hour, effective today,” a note from executive producer Noah Oppenheim read. “While he was a new member of the TODAY team, he was a valued colleague and longtime member of the broader NBC family. We wish him success as he goes forward.”
Following the release of the tapes, Bush apologized to the public and hired a crisis lawyer to help his case. His lawyer, Marshall Grossman, argued that Bush was doing his job in interviewing Trump, and would have lost his job if he had revealed the tape at the time.
While Bush had only been part of Today beginning in the summer, he had been an anchor on NBC’s Access Hollywood for 12 years. The only detail known about his departure agreement is that it would not include a non-compete clause, meaning Bush will be free to seek new employment immediately.
