Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin responded to Donald Trump allegedly calling her “retarded” on the Celebrity Apprentice reality show. Multiple stories by Apprentice staffers have recently surfaced about Trump’s complete lack of political correctness during the filming of the show. The staffers have all asked not to be named for fear of legal action connected to non-disclosure agreements they signed.

Trump allegedly uttered the remark in reference to Matlin’s deafness. The actress is famous for her roles in Children of a Lesser God and The West Wing, and competed on Celebrity Apprentice‘s Season 11.

The actress expressed her outrage on Twitter, saying that the term is “abhorrent and should never be used.” Matlin labeled discrimination against deaf people “unacceptable”, and said she is deeply upset by having to talk about this.

A spokesperson for the Trump campaign dismissed the story, saying, “Marlee Matlin is such a nice person, and Mr. Trump has great respect for her, but this report is completely false.”

Trump has made other offensive remarks on TV, including the lewd comments in a conversation with Billy BushApprentice producer Mark Burnett has publicly said he does not support Trump, although he is unable to release tapes from the show.
