With the writers’ strike ongoing, Bill Maher will not return to work on his HBO show Real Time With Bill Maher.

Last week, he announced that the show would go on without writers. In response, the Writers Guild of America called Maher’s decision “disappointing” and vowed to picket his show if he returned.

Maher explained his decision by posting on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“My decision to return to work was made when it seemed nothing was happening and there was no end in sight to this strike. Now that both sides have agreed to go back to the negotiating table I’m going to delay the return of Real Time, for now, and hope they can finally get this done,” he said.

Since May, the WGA has been on strike. They have been demanding increased pay, better residual deals and protection against artificial intelligence.

Talks between the producers and writers are set to resume on Wednesday.
