Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) responded to X owner Elon Musk‘s post on the social media platform, claiming, “The Dem Party goal is to import voters.”

Ocasio Cortez replied with a simple response, “You’re literally an immigrant.”

Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and immigrated to the United States after completing his high school education.

For months, Musk along with Republican members of Congress have criticized President Joe Biden for his immigration policies, calling for stricter border control. Musk also shared an article from the Daily Caller, founded by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, that claimed the White House was “handing out green cards” to undocumented immigrants.

In early March, Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) addressed Biden’s immigration policies in her widely mocked response to the president’s State of the Union address.

In October, Ocasio-Cortez called Musk “a billionaire with an ego problem.”

Many users criticized Ocasio-Cortez’s post, noting that Musk immigrated legally. The New York representative responded again with, “And for everyone saying ‘yeah, but legal!!’ May I once again remind you that seeking asylum is legal, too. Have a good day!”

Ocasio-Cortez and Musk have clashed on social media in the past. In November 2022, Ocasio-Cortez posted about the $8 subscription to X, still Twitter at the time. Musk responded with, “Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8.”
