Much of the estimated $1.2 million estate of Anthony Bourdain, the late chef and Parts Unknown host who committed suicide on June 8, will be inherited by his 11-year-old daughter Ariane Bourdain when she comes of age.
According to papers from Manhattan Surrogate’s Court, Bourdain had holdings that included $425,000 in savings and cash, $500,000 in “intangible property including royalties and residuals,” $250,000 in personal property and $35,000 in a brokerage account.
It is also reported that the court will select a guardian to keep a hold of the estate until his daughter is old enough. Ottavia Busia, his ex-wife and the will’s executor, is reportedly in charge of disposing of Bourdain’s personal and household items. Since their divorce was not finalized before his death, Busia is legally his next of kin.
The 2016 will stated his finances would’ve gone to Myra Quizon, his daughter’s nanny, if Ariane died before he did.
His Manhattan condo was not listed in the will; however, there are filings that indicate a $1 million mortgage liability for an unspecified property, which is likely his Manhattan apartment.
“I own an apartment with a mortgage that my ex-wife and my daughter live in, and I’m a renter. I should always be a renter,” Bourdain told People in February. “I regret buying that apartment. The bank owns it, and then you’re stuck with it.”
His estimated $1.2 million fortune was shocking to those who predicted his estate to be worth at least $16 million at the time of his death. However, the will indicates he created a private trust with an unidentified amount of assets, which may sum up to the previously estimated $16 million.
Bourdain died at 61 years of age and was discovered in his hotel room in France while traveling for his show Parts Unknown. He is also survived by his girlfriend Asia Argento and his mother Gladys Bourdain.
