Alexa Vega On ‘Machete Kills,’ Robert Rodriguez… by Uinterview

Alexa Vega stars in Machete Kills, Robert Rodriguez‘s sequel to 2010’s Machete, as the sexually provocative Killjoy. Vega, best known for her role in Rodriguez’s kid flick Spy Kids, opened up with Uinterview about taking on the adult role and working with a director who’d last worked with her in her teenage years in an exclusive interview with Uinterview.

In order to land the role in Machete Kills, Vega had to convince Rodriguez that she could bring something to the script he’d never have seen from her 11-old-self. “I’ve known Robert for 14 years so I had a lot of convincing to do when it came to this role because he wasn’t quite ready to see me in a more grown up film,” Vega admitted to Uinterview. “He still pictured me as that little girl.”

After landing the part, Vega took it upon herself to prepare not only mentally but physically, as her costuming was going to have her baring a fair amount of skin. “I was training really hard, but I didn’t know what the costume was going to be before I started training but I knew it was going to probably be something a little bit more revealing than anything I’d worn before,” Vega revealed. “I’ve always been a bit insecure in that area and shy but knowing that I had to own it and that I was playing a character who was very confident in herself — I was able to take that away in my own life.”

Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez will be reprising their roles from the first Grindhouse inspired films – Machete and Hobo with a Shotgun. In addition to Vega, newcomers to the franchise will include Mel Gibson, Amber Heard, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Hudgens, Charlie Sheen and Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, who Vega says “goes from zero to a hundred within a second” as soon as Rodriguez says action.
